Review | Stranger Things

Hello all you beautiful people.

It’s Rachel, and I have been away forever! And there is something we must address. My friends, we have a new fandom. And that fandom is Stranger Things.

Stranger Things is an original Netflix series, which over the past two or so months has taken the internet by storm.

Stranger Things is a science fiction fantasy drama, set back in the 1980’s. Back in the days were science fiction in film and comic were starting to take a large hold on our western society. The story is kick-started with the strange disappearance of Will Byers, one of Hawkins local kids. We then set out on an investigation of Hawkins serif, Will’s mother, brother, and his three best friends. Where they encounter a set of strange occurrences, science experiments, a mysterious girl, a monster, alternate dimensions, communication through lights, and friendship.

The story-line is very gripping. And I like how there are a number of subplots that all tie together very nicely. The gripping mystery, of where, is Will Byers, and what took him? And who is this little girl called eleven, and what does she have powers? Along with a number of questions that need answers.

If you are a fan of 80’s movies, horror, science fiction, fantasy and the paranormal (all mixed into one) then Stranger Things is most definitely the thing for you. There are only eight episodes to watch so shouldn’t take you long. Honestly, I was so utterly impressed with this show. It was exactly what I had felt like watching, and it left me wanting more. There is so much more I would like to say about this. But I don’t want to spoil anything. So if any of you want to have a spoilers review and discussion on this, let us know in the comments, and we can make that happen. We could even do a Facebook Live chat, answering your questions and discussing this on a greater scale. We’ll see!

Let me know your thoughts on Stranger Things!

I started watching it because of this post, Rach 🙂 Really enjoying it! I think, beyond just how well written the overall plot is, like you said, everything interconnecting, and the tension build up, I love to see the different family dynamics. On the one hand, you have Will and Jonothan’s family. Single mom, just trying to get by, who works a lot, but still manages to have her kids be priority. She is a part of their world, and esp seeing her and Jonothan’s relationship is really sweet. Then, there is the higher end middle class family that Nancy and Mike belong to. So much better off than Will’s family, and yet they hardly seem to have any kind of closeness at all. Mike is hiding this strange girl in his basement and his parents have no idea, while his sister is getting into trouble of a totally different kind. Which, Nancy’s jerk of a boyfriend (*coughs* awkward moments to skip *coughs*), was the only thing I thought they could have done more tactfully. But, overall, such a good show!
